  • Intranet —

  • Firefox —
  • Google —

I'm a big fan and long-time user of the Instant Comment greasemonkey script on my livejournal. However I find that often it doesn't work, and I end up having to load the page I'm responding to in a new tab to check, which defeats the purpose and ends up taking even more time. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the script a few times. I'm wondering if there's some issue with it working better in some LJ styles than others. Can you advise me on this?

I looka t my Friendslist page in the Smooth Sailing style, and have things set up in Firefox to always show pages in style=mine.

Any advice?
Thank you!

Hello. I've double checked the script and tested it with several journals and it worked flawlessly for all except few. I spent some time wondering what the difference is, and finally found it. Some journals who have underscore in their name have that character replaced by dash in domain name, and that was the source of misbehavior.

Currently this one is fixed, please grab updated version from homepage (http://clear.com.ua/en/projects/firefox/instant_comment) or userScripts (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/1166).

Also, the script does check for success and shows dark-green border only if message body was found in target entry comment list.

If it does not happen, it shows red border and error message.

Thank you so much for responding and trouble-shooting this for me!

But just to challenge you further, I've noticed that there are times when, despite seeing the red box, I'll check by loading the comment page in a new tab and find my comment IS there. Which is weird and confusing. Perhaps you can now figure out what that's about, if you're curious?

I'm very appreciative. Thanks again.

Not fixed yet -- it's kind of worse

Now I'm getting a different problem with the new script. Here's what happens.

I post an I.C. It flashes green, then red. Then Firefox shows me a drop-down error message saying it didn't post, including the content of what I tried to post, and then at the bottom saying 'the error is:' but then it cuts off. THEN when I click OK it takes me away from my friends page to the page I just commented on -- where my comment is in fact there.

And then I have to navigate back to my friend's page!

Eeeek.

A little more info -- when, after being taken to the comments page of the entry I just commented on, I hit the browser back button, I'm returned not to the same page of my friends list that I'd been reading, but the page PRIOR to it.

Is it common or just for some entries/journals?

This morning, it's happened 3 times, and not happened also about 3 or 4 times. And I don't think it's got to do with underscores in the journal names this time.

is it repeatable for you there? For me it worked.

And, btw - your OS, Firefox & GM versions ?

Yes, it happened again.
I took a screen shot of what I got:

My comment was posted despite what the error message drop-down said.

bumps head against the table

Yeah, line feeds were translated into BRs and because of it the original message text was not found in the response. And also LJ translates URLs into links and who knows what else.

Gotta think about it, thanks for report.
