Watched “Ice Storm”. A movie about confused American families and teenagers of 70s. Totally did not get what was all the hype on IMDB about.
Just a chunk of their lives, filled with regret of adults, cynicysm and vulnerability of teens, and everybody's insecurity and cowardice.
Damn, I have had and still have enough of this stuff in real life.
“Everything's got a moral, if only you can find it.” Well, I did not find any here. Neither did I find a message here, except that some people have their lives going the really wrong way, everybody already knows that.
Still, I greatly enjoyed “God Bless America”, which too does not propose any viable solution to society and people's problems, just outlines them vividly. Same goes for “American Beauty”, also talking about mid-aged people hating their lives, trying to break out of their routine. I think that is because despite the fact that heroes of both latter movies end up dead, they were not cowards like all the people depicted in “Ice Storm”. And it is the valorous attempts that make interesting and inspiring stories.
